Instrumental Music

The Lilydale High School Instrumental Music Department has qualified and experienced teachers in Woodwind, Brass, Percussion/Drum Kit, Guitar, Piano and Voice readily available for students to learn and develop music skills on an instrument.

As part of the program, students will have one lesson a week on a rotating timetable throughout the term on their lesson day. This is to ensure lessons do not interfere with their studies.  As part of their lessons, students will also gain experience performing as part of our band and ensemble program.  Students who currently learn an instrument external from school are welcomed into our band/ensemble program as well.

Band/Ensemble and Instrumental Music Program

Students in Years 7 to 12 have the opportunity to enhance their musical abilities through lessons, ensembles, workshops and excursions. Our Band and Instrumental Music Program in conjunction with our classroom music curriculum, provides students with a range of opportunities to grow and develop as musicians.

All of our bands and ensembles rehearse during lunchtimes and have various opportunities to perform throughout the year at school and community events such as our Mid-Year and Annual Year concerts, the September Soiree, and as part of the School Production.

Classroom Music Program

Our Band and Instrumental Music Program is coupled with our Classroom Music curriculum to provide students with the broadest possible range of musical skills, knowledge and opportunities.

Music is offered as a subject at Lilydale High School from Years 7 through to VCE and our teaching staff are dedicated to passing on their own passion for music to their students, ensuring that students not only succeed academically in the subject but develop as performers and appreciators of music.

The Classroom Music curriculum, in conjunction with the Band and Instrumental Music Program gives students the fundamental knowledge, skill base and performance experience they need to become confident and proficient musicians.
