Lilydale High School Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) Program

Lilydale High School has offered a Select Entry Accelerated Learning Program since 1994. Lilydale is a foundation member of the Academy of Accredited SEAL Schools.

What is SEAL?

Victorian Government secondary schools have run programs for gifted students since the 1980s. TASS was established to continue this tradition, helping like-minded students develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

SEAL Program at Lilydale High School

Our SEAL Program supports students with above-average ability, work ethic, creativity and critical thinking skills. It spans all eight Key Learning Areas and allows students to engage in more complex, abstract content without unnecessary repetition in a setting with high behavioural expectations.

Years 7 & 8

SEAL students complete all core subjects together as a homegroup.

Year 9

Core studies continue in the homegroup, with electives taken alongside mainstream students.

Year 10

SEAL students study English as a homegroup and join mainstream classes for other subjects. They are encouraged to take a VCE subject instead of a Year 10 subject for academic extension.

VCE

Our VCE program aligns with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority. Starting VCE early in Year 10 may allow SEAL students to study an extra subject or take university-level studies in Year 12.

Excellence in Sport (EIS)

At Lilydale High School, our Year 9 and 10 students have the opportunity to apply for the Excellence in Sport Program (EIS). We currently run three sports within the middle school program: Basketball, Netball and Australian Rules Football (AFL).

At Year 9, EIS students attend training two periods per week, whilst at Year 10 our students train 4 periods per week. During this time, students participate in a wide range of training sessions to aid in developing their overall skills, fitness and tactical abilities within the sport. These sessions vary from whole group training sessions to specialised recovery and strength and conditioning sessions.

In addition to these lessons, the athletes compete in various sporting events as EIS team members such as: the Australian Basketball Championships, The Woorowa Reconciliation Carnival, Netball Vic School Championships plus interschool friendly/practice matches with other, elite programmed schools.

The EIS program aims to develop the athlete as a whole, building on their high skill level, fostering their growing bodies through recovery and strength and conditioning sessions. Our athletes are then able to put their hard work to the test against strong opposition in various competitive opportunities.
