Works alert – Maroondah Highway, site establishment and utility relocations
Works are continuing on the Maroondah Highway level crossing removal project with strict health and safety protocols in place.

The health and safety of our workers and the community will remain our key priority as we undertake works on the Maroondah Highway level crossing removal project. We will continue to follow the directions of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) as we safely complete works on this project.

This works alert provides an overview of the construction activities for the Maroondah Highway level crossing removal project that you may notice from week commencing Monday 26 October 2020.

Upcoming changes to the way you travel

Lilydale Station eastern car park (26 October – 9 November 2020): Up to 100 car spaces will be temporarily closed to install new train power and signalling cabling. Alternative commuter parking is available from Market Street and by the Lilydale outdoor pool.

William Street East and West local road access (26 October – 9 November 2020): William Street East and West will be closed (with local road access only) to construct new pedestrian footpaths and facilitate service and utility relocations or upgrades.

Maroondah Highway pedestrian footpath (26 October – 9 November 2020): There will be minor detours on the southern pedestrian footpath on Maroondah Highway to facilitate new communication cabling installation.

Maroondah Highway railway pedestrian crossing (9 November 2020): From Monday 9 November 2020, the pedestrian crossing over the rail line connecting William Street East and West will be closed to commence bridge structural foundation works. Pedestrians will need to use John Street or cross the Maroondah Highway and use the pedestrian crossing over the rail line near Lilydale Station to continue their journey.

Maroondah Highway (including service roads)
Utility service investigations and relocations.

Intermittent parking restrictions and temporary lane closures, with traffic management in place to assist businesses and customers with access as required.

William Street East and William Street West
Sewerage and power relocation and upgrade works.

Construction of a temporary pedestrian footpath along the west side of William Street West.

Intermittent parking restrictions and temporary lane closures, with traffic management in place to assist businesses and customers with access as required.

Intermittent pedestrian detours, with signage in place to advise accordingly.
Access to all businesses will be maintained.

William Street East (Lilydale High School)
• Parking has now been removed from William Street East by Lilydale High School, and there will be heavy machinery in operation in this area until early 2022.
• Utility service investigations and relocations.
• Ongoing site establishment within Lilydale High School grounds, involving the use of a compaction roller.
• Access to all businesses will be maintained.

What to expect
• Works will be carried out from 7am – 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am – 1pm Saturday.
• Some construction noise and activity, with construction vehicles, equipment and works operating in the area.
• Slight changes to pedestrian paths on Maroondah Highway, William Street East and West and John Street.
• Traffic management will be in place to safely assist road users and pedestrians to their destination.
