Works alert – Maroondah Highway, site establishment and utility
relocations

Construction on the Maroondah Highway level crossing removal project has been deemed critical under Stage 4 restrictions and works will continue with strict health and safety protocols in place.

Workforce numbers have already been significantly reduced to support directions from the Chief Health Officer.

The health and safety of our workforce and community remains our top priority.

Under new restrictions workers on these sites are required to wear face coverings unless they meet any of the criteria for an exception such as a medical condition or for OH&S guidelines.

Physical distancing measures are in place as well as increased hygiene practices.

This works alert provides an overview of the construction activities for the Maroondah Highway level crossing removal project that you may notice from the week commencing, Monday 24 August 2020.

Maroondah Highway service roads
• Utility service investigations and relocations.
• Intermittent parking restrictions close to the service road intersections with William Street East and William Street West.
• Traffic management will be in place to facilitate the safe exit/entry of vehicles from the service roads.

William Street East and William Street West
• Utility service investigations and relocations.
• Intermittent parking restrictions on William Street East (near Lilydale High School).
• Access to all businesses on William Street East and William Street West will be maintained.

John Street
• Works to construct a temporary construction worker car park and rail access route at 12 John Street will continue.
• Traffic management will be in place to facilitate the safe delivery of construction material and equipment using large trucks.
• Utility service investigations and relocations.
• Intermittent parking restrictions.
• Lane and road closures, with traffic management in place to assist road users.
• Pedestrian access will be maintained with minor detours

Market Street and Chapel Street – Melba Park area
• Construction will continue for the temporary commuter car park in the Showgrounds area adjacent to Lilydale Oval and accessed from Market Street.
• The western commuter car park remains operational while the temporary car park is constructed.
• Utility service investigations and relocations at the west end of Chapel Street, near the Warburton Trail.
• Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Vegetation removal
• Ongoing vegetation removal works will continue within and close to the rail corridor.

Various locations
• Utility service investigations and relocations will continue from 17 August for a number of weeks within and adjacent to the rail corridor and in multiple locations throughout Lilydale.

What to expect
Works will be carried out from 7 am – 6 pm Monday to Friday and 8 am – 1 pm Saturday.
• Some construction noise and activity, with vehicles and workers on site.
• Slight changes to pedestrian paths on William Street East, Melba Park and John Street.
• Construction equipment and vacuum trucks operating in the area.
• Intermittent noise from chainsaws and mulching machinery.
• Traffic management will be in place to facilitate the safe delivery of construction material and equipment using large trucks.
